Lowell Deede, a Detroit Lakes resident, recently retired from a career as a wildlife biologist at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge and just completed a 2 1/2 year effort to walk all 2,150 of public roads in Becker County. His trek actually included 3,000 miles of walking with the backtracking and he said that highlights included wildlife seen, people encountered, and interesting architecture observed while walking as opposed to the usual faster pace of driving. His experience has been written up in the Detroit Lakes Tribune and also will be featured in the Star Tribune. Lowell is also attempting to summit all 50 State high points ? he?s completed 35 including Denali and has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa.
