Mechanical Worker / Entry Level Facilities Maintenance

The Fergus Falls Public Schools are seeking to fill a full-time, entry level, mechanical worker position to assist with facilities maintenance.  This position is year round and is under the custodian contract. On-the-job training provided. Work hours are generally Monday-Friday 6 am-2:30 pm.

This position has a benefit package that includes health insurance; life insurance; 403b contribution; long-term disability insurance; retirement benefits through the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA); and sick/personal/vacation leave. The wage range is from $20.09-$22.31/hour.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Heating/plumbing/refrigeration knowledge
  • Communication and computer knowledge
  • Good physical condition with ability to carry up a ladder up to 80 lbs., and ability to work in confined spaces
  • Mechanical skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical repair
  • 1st class C Boiler license
  • Valid drivers license
  • Ability to work in hazardous conditions while wearing safety gear.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB SUMMARY:
To maintain the school physical buildings in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The tasks listed below are not intended to limit other tasks that might reasonably be assigned as necessary.

  • Must have a general knowledge of all trades and the ability to report problems to the head mechanical worker and/or district wide mechanical supervisor.
  • Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season, as directed by the head mechanical person.
  • Repair air handling units by changing belts, cleaning heating coils, changing filters, changing bearings, grease bearings, remove and replace worn out motors, remove and install new radiators as needed.
  • Repair, maintenance and operation of all pneumatic controls used for temperature controls, controllers for fans, hot water converters, air operated valves, as directed by the head mechanical person.
  • Responsible for snow removal, as needed.
  • Participate in in-service training programs and keep up-to date with "Employee Right to Know" program.
